Of all the homes that grace Allerton Hill, the best known is the "Fitzgerald House", once owned by Boston Mayor John "Honey Fitz" Fitzgerald; the father of Rose Kennedy who would later give birth to the 35th President of the United States.
In 1915 John “Honey Fitz” Fitzgerald bought the ‘Tudor-style’ beach house at 940 Nantasket Avenue on Point Allerton. Fitz, the former mayor of Boston, would holiday there in the summer months with his wife Mary and six children Frederick, John Jr, Eunice, Thomas, Mary and Rose, who would go on to marry Joseph Kennedy and help raise the Kennedy political dynasty. After Rose’s marriage, she would often return to Nantasket Avenue in the summer months with her children, including the future president, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, whose height marks, along with his siblings, are still etched on the living room wall inside the Honey Fitz summer house.
