Greetings from Allerton Hill !
Vintage postcards from the David Foss collection
The Old Beacon Club once stood on Holbrook Avenue where the flag raising is conducted each Fourth of July (the flagpole still stands). In 1939 the building was moved in two pieces to Fitzpatrick Way after a major dredging and filling project created Mariner's Park. The Beacon Club was then renamed the Hull Yacht Club. The turnbuckles holding the two halves of the building together can still be seen in the yacht club rafters.
Hill Crest Road no longer exists. This is now Bluff Road.
The Nautilus Inn and the Atlantic Club once stood at the base of the bluff overlooking Allerton Cove.
If anyone is familiar with Mr. Gray or where his business was located, please let us know!

This postcard is courtesy of Diane Flaherty Martin. It shows the Nautilus Inn with her family's future cottage on the right. The cottage was the inn's maid's quarters, which the owners sold to Diane's parents after the inn was destroyed by fire.
Bradford Ave back in the day. Note the unpaved road.
